Looking for a largish spreading shade tree that not everyone has planted? Well this could be the tree you are looking for. It comes from the Himalaya region and will eventually become a tree to 30metres although you and I aren’t going to see that!
Its large palmate leaves are coppery tinged in the spring when it first breaks and its candles of exotic white flowers spotted cerise and yellow come out well after the spring nonsense is over extending the season beautifully. It will also produce lovely mahogany coloured conkers (seeds) so perhaps the Indians could beat the Poms at that game as well!
A sunny well drained site with reasonable deep fertile soil should get it underway and I have nice young trees in 10″ pots at $39.50
