This hardy small upright evergreen Chilean tree is a must in the garden with its light upright habit, its tiny gross green leaves and its incredible perfume. I have several around my garden as they make great quick screening plants that don’t grow too wide and I get to appreciate the scent from all over when it blooms in late winter and early spring.
The flowers are tiny and really nothing more that a cluster of yellow stamens but the incredibly strange vanilla like fragrance wafts everywhere. I even imposed one on the neighbour across the road to extend its impact.
It will grow to about 5metres tall and only about 2 to3 metres wide although it can be even narrower with judicious pruning.
The first time it flowers I guarantee you will have your nose in the air trying to find the culprit!
