I love a tropical look in the garden even though I come from less than tropical Mt. Macedon! And this plant really floats my boat. It is not only cold hardy but grows well in dry shade to boot, what more could you want? Well it will also do well in a pot and makes a great indoor plant as well.
It will grow to about 3metres with only a few thick branches topped with huge glossy green maple shaped leaves that in this variegated form has irregular cream edges to the leaves with more cream at the tips of the lobes.
In winter it also produces balls of small white flowers in large complex panicles that add to the overall usefulness of the plant. If it has a draw back it is that it produces very little propagating material so is rarely available. I do however have a small batch in 20cm. pots for $38.50 at the moment so don’t miss out on this stunner.
