This Genus has to be up there with the worlds best autumn colour and this form of Tupelo as they are commonly called (I hate it when common names are harder than botanical ones!) has to be one of the best.
It was a seedling selected at Yamina Rare Plants at Monbulk many years ago by the very much missed Arnold Teese, and varies from the type in that it has pendulous side branches making it a svelter tree that would fit well into a smaller space as well as being extremely elegant.
It will still grow to a moderately tall tree perhaps to 5metres or more and its glossy green foliage is lovely all summer, but when autumn comes put on the sun glasses! It can turn brilliant shades including reds oranges and yellows depending on the year.
Like all Nyssas this one appreciates a moist to even damp soil and is completely cold tolerant so if you have the place for one don’t hold back, perhaps even plant a copse!
I have lovely plants in 25cm. pots at $65.50
