This isn’t a plant for the timid gardener so I obviously love it!
In the non variegated form it is a North American native and worth growing for its green leaves with a red-brown chevron about half way. It also produces spikes of tiny white flowers from deep pink buds at the end of the growing season, autumn.
However plant the variegated form Painters Palette and you will knock their socks off! It does all the things the wild form does but with the added colour produced by blotchy spotty cream throughout the leaves. It looks like sun light is shining in from somewhere.
Plant it in moist to damp soil in sun or semi-shade and wait for the comments.
It grows to about 90cms. tall and its leaves are large and in your face. Propagate it by division or from seed that seems to come true to type as if you love it you won’t be able to get enough of it.
